~A Fundraiser to Benefit Research in an effort to Find a Cure for Pediatric Cancer~

January 5, 2010

Dear Friends, Family and Associates,

Happy New Year! It is with sincere gratitude that I write to you and thank you for participating and contributing to “Avery’s Carnival,” which took place on Saturday, October 17, 2009. The day was an overwhelming success, and this was accomplished due to the effort and generous support from all of you. I am deeply appreciative and cannot thank you enough!

We raised a total of $7,100! As you are aware, all of the proceeds were contributed to The Avery Lubrecht Foundation. These funds will be sent to The Children’s Hospital Of Philadelphia and will be used for pediatric cancer research.

Along with Avery Lubrecht, we celebrated the lives of three other children who have been affected by this horrible disease, cancer. Jeremy Zalinsky, was a vibrant 8-year old boy who was my sister’s neighbor. He had a smile that no one could forget and a positive attitude like no other boy I’ve ever known. He passed away seven years ago from a cancerous brain tumor. Bobby Buecker who was diagnosed when he was 13 years old. Bobby excelled in school as well as sports. He was brave and courageous during his battle with this disease. He passed away on August 6, 1998 at the age of 15. Dante Taraborelli was diagnosed at the age of two with a cancerous brain tumor. He became friends with Avery at CHOP while they both were fighting to beat cancer. Dante was three when he passed away.

These are just a few of the MANY children who have been affected by this disease. On the average 12,500 children and teens will be diagnosed with some form of cancer each year in this country. Cancer remains the Number 1 disease killer of America’s children – more than Cystic fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Asthma and AIDS combined.

These facts are very disturbing. We will continue our efforts to raise money and contribute it in memory of Avery, Jeremy, Bobby, Dante and so many more children who have been affected by this disease. “Avery’s Carnival” is an annual event in October, Avery’s birthday month, to celebrate the lives of these beautiful children. It is my personal hope that you will continue to commit to donating to our carnival once again next year. It is the combined efforts of everyone that has made this annual fundraiser such a success. Our efforts WILL help a child who will face this disease in the future.

Again, I thank you for supporting this fundraising event in honor of the lives of Avery Lubrecht, Jeremy Zalinsky, Bobby Buecker and Dante Taraborelli!
What we do together will make a difference……………………
